1. Slang. (Disparaging). a young black child.
Usage Formerly not recognized as an insulting term, its use is not now acceptable in standard American English.
2. any small child.
[perhaps American English, ultimately < Portuguese pequenino very small or perhaps < Spanish pequeñín < pequeño small + niño boy]
